A guide for renovation solution types of ventilation and building envelopes of typical post WWII apartment buildings

Reducing energy consumption of existing buildings is an important strategy for lower energy use and climate change mitigation. To improve energy performance, the buildings need deep renovation. In the current study, solution types were developed for the renovation of ventilation and thermal insulation of the building envelope of typical brick and concrete large panel apartment buildings in Estonia. The purpose of this guide is to describe the designers and builders accurate monitoring of the reconstructed apartment building design process, to point out the essential aspects and provide examples of different solutions. The renovation solution types were developed for integrated deep renovation: insulation of the building envelope, renovation of heating and ventilation systems to guarantee the indoor climate category according to EN 15251 and the energy use to correspond to the requirements of a new building.
