This paper discusses an algorithm of vehicle license-plate location based on image difference and binary transformation. At first, we analyzed the characteristics of original vehicle image and license-plate, which is the base of the algorithm. Then the region of license-plate was strengthened by image difference, and the regions of noise were filtered by binary transformation. After these transformations, the license-plate is outstanding in the whole image. At last, the coordinates of license-plate in the original image were found by projecting the binary image to Y-axis and X-axis respectively, so location of vehicle license-plate was realized successfully. The result of MATLAB simulation shows that this algorithm is fast and accurate. In practice, a lot of experiments prove that the algorithm is practical, which is easier to be used than most of other methods, and its effect is better.
