A method to improve the beam quality of a high power diode pumped solid state rodlaser is described. The beam quality of the described laser is limited by aberrationspresent in the medium, which may be due to mode-medium effects in the Yb:YAG laserrod. A diffractive optics propagation model was developed to predict the phasedistortions present on the laser wavefront. Resonator mirrors were then fabricated withthe proper correction applied to correct the distorted wavefront. The beam qualityimproved from M~2= 2.0 to M~2=1.3.
