The theoretical confocal profile of an ideal Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)system is modeled and analyzed. The results of the analysis are used to determine thesuitability of both Time Domain (TD-OCT) and Fourier Domain OCT (FD-OCT) inconjunction with Adaptive Optics. It is shown that for large depth ranges the interferencesignal from FD-OCT drops below the level of TD-OCT interference signal indicating thatfor larger depth ranges, TD-OCT is a more suitable system. A TD-OCT novel systemdesign is presented as well. The system incorporates a high stroke deformable mirror(MIRAO52 Imagine Eyes) and a Shack-Hartmann wave-front sensor. It is able toproduce simultaneous en-face OCT and Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscopy (SW) retinalimages as well as OCT longitudinal images.
