The synthesis of mesoporous boron nitride (BN) by using an aminoborazine as boron nitride source and silica (SBA-15) as template is described. Tri(methylamino)borazine (MAB) is converted to BN inside the mesopores of silica molecular sieves through a mild thermic process. Influence of the solvant used for the infiltration process is discussed as well as the influence of the methylation of silica walls. Boron nitride is obtained after the removal of the hard template using a thermal treatment or an HF treatment. The X-ray diffraction, TEM and pore size analysis show that the structure of the materials consists in a mesoporous boron nitride with some intergranular macroporosity. Mesopores, 3.4 nm in diameter, are locally organized. A brief comparison is done with boron nitride resulting from a CMK-3 carbon nanocasting.
