Quasi 1D crystals of tin and indium oxide have been prepared by vapor phase technique. Structural characterization has been performed by transmission electron microscopy in correlation with the study of the electrical gas sensing properties in presence of different concentrations of carbon monoxide and acetone as function of the working temperatures. Tin dioxide nanowires showed superior gas sensing performances, carbon monoxide introduction at low concentrations produces remarkable and fast variations in the conductance also when working at temperatures around 100 deg C.
