The effects of aging on the dynamic properties of viscoelastic materials (which include rubbers, plastics and adhesives) are discussed. Common methods to predict such effect, through accelerated aging, are empirical, which, sometimes, could lead to false conclusions. The approach described in this paper to establish the relationship between time and temperature is based on using the activation energy of the material of interest. Results are shown for actual samples that have been aged at ambient temperature for many years, and how their aged properties are predicted from tests conducted on new samples that have been aged for only a few hours.
