QUICK TEST FOR ON-SITE STABILITY ASSESSMENT OF PROPELLANTS AND DOUBLE-BASE SOLID PROPELLANTS BY THIN LAYER CHROMATOGRAPHY (TLC)

In order to evaluate the storage and transportation safety of propellants the stabilizer content is very important. In chemical laboratories the precise high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) is the most important method to determine stabilizer content by trained lab personnel. For rapid, field-moderate investigations through untrained personnel this method is inapplicable. Here the thin layer chromatography (TLC) can be practised after short instruction also by untrained persons. The hereby achievable accuracy is to check as half or coarse-quantitative in case of visual evaluation, however for OK/fault result absolutely acceptable. The for this necessary TLC - analysing-equipment can be put in a small portable suitcase.
