This paper seeks to disentangle some of the confusion prevalent in the current discussion on the ethics of artificial intelligence. The methodology of the inquiry is dialectical and open ended and is intended to provide an overview of the ethical and philosophical issues in this area of inquiry. This supports the formation of a shared coherent understanding of the issues that can be used as a basis of further research and discussion.
