WAS JOINING THE WTO TOO EXPENSIVE FOR CHINA OR DO THE BENEFITS OUTWEIGH THE COSTS?

Achieving any goal can be a difficult process. China had a goal of becoming a member of the WTO (World Trade Organization), but the process was difficult. It took fifteen years for China to be officially admitted into the WTO; however, admission created the challenge of transforming the economy. This paper reviews the admission process and the subsequent economic challenges. Additionally, the benefits of WTO membership are analyzed.
