The anodic behaviors of IrO_2-Ta_2O_5coatings prepared by thermal decomposition at different temperatures were investigated by cyclic voltammetry to develop a novel electrode that can suppress CoOOH deposition on the anode. Thermal decomposition at 470 °C or more resulted in crystalline IrO_2in the coating, and the amorphization of irO_2 was seen at temperatures below 380 °C. While the anodic deposition of CoOOH was found on such high temperature coatings, the amorphous coating accelerated gas evolution in HC1 solutions and successfully suppressed CoOOH deposition in the solution from C0CI_2.
