Annoyance Scale of the Noises in Multi-Residential Buildings

An auditory experiment of major residential noises consisting of air-borne, bathroom drainage and traffic noise was conducted in order to construct a noise annoyance scale, to determine allowable limits of residential noises, and to rate residential noises based on a subjective annoyance test of the noises. Appropriate adverbs for describing each level of annoyance were determined and a 7-point noise annoyance scale using the adverbs was constructed. The allowable noise level limits for airborne, drainage and traffic noise were 42.3dBA, 41.0dBA and 42.7dBA, respectively. Finally, 3 classes of subjective response to residential noises are proposed.
