Permeability of carvedilol and the effect of various penetration enhancers on its permeability through bovine buccal mucosa was investigated in vitro using two chambered diffusion cell. The permeability of carvedilol from suspension with 20% polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG 400) in phosphate buffer saline (PBS) pH 6.6 was studied. Then the effect of various penetration enhancers, 0.5% of sodium lauryl sulphate & 5% of lauric acid, sodium taurocholate and menthol on the permeability was also studied. Flux (J) (μg/cm2/hr) and permeability coefficient (P) (cm/sec) values were calculated.
