Rails for light rail vehicles are more and more directly installed on concrete track slabs. The dynamic behavior of these assemblies is very important for the vibration isolation characteristics of the track slab. This dynamic behavior is function of the subsoil characteristics, the dynamic characteristics of the concrete slab, the dynamic behavior of the rail fixation systems and the properties of the rails. This paper discusses the design, modeling, lab testing and on site testing of a new direct fixation fastener which shows excellent vibration isolation characteristics in combination with a good rail stability. This performance is obtained with an anti-vibration pad with a very low dynamic stiffness, which is pre-compressed by a resilient matched pre-stress device.
