In this study, we focused our interests on longitudinal development of motor control in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Performance and EEG recordings during continuous performance test (CPT-AX) were obtained from a male child suffering from ADHD when he was 9.6 years old with and without psychostimulant (methylphenidate). Follow-up examinations were done when he was 10.6 and 11.6 years old. Hit rate of CPT-AX under non-medicated condition remained low, while hit rate under medication improved significantly, However, hit rate under non-medicated condition in third recording reached the behavioral level as that of the control, Longitudinal improvement in CPT-AX was also observed in ERP data. That is, P2/N2 and P3 in the first recording maintained a lower intensity with short duration. However, intensity levels in the third recording improved in comparison with control data, and the longitudinal change of ERP corresponded with intra-individual change of behavioral performance. Therefore,longitudinal examination of ERP might complement and extend the findings obtained from cross-sectional data, but also reveal a developmental course of an individual with ADHD.
