ASSESSMENT OF TARGET MODE SELECTION CRITERIA FOR PAYLOAD MODAL SURVEY

A set of target modes is determined by each of four methods, for a typical Space Station payload. These methods are rigid body effective mass, constraint mode effective mass, kinetic energy fraction, and strain energy fraction. Transient toads of critical structural members due to random excitations are computed to assess the effectiveness of these methods. The sensitivity of the target mode selection criteria is determined by comparing the responses with the baseline model prediction using all the modes in the frequency range of interest.
