Coriolis' Theory of Machines and Mechanisms

摘要

Gaspard-Gustave de Coriolis (1792-1843), a French mathematician[1] and engineer, has traditionally been best known for discovering the Coriolis Effect[2]. In this paper we focus our attention elsewhere, on his contribution to a theory of machines and mechanisms (TMM) presented in his Du Calcul de l'Effet des Machines[3], first published in 1829. This book became the first textbook of applied mechanics following the tradition of rational mechanics.
