Synthetic Fuels: A Scenario for Meeting China's Auto Fuel Demands

China's auto market has been growing dramatically in recent years. A fast-path increase in the coming 10 to 20 years is anticipated. This will generate a huge gap between China's limited oil supply and its demand in the foreseeable future. Furthermore, increasing car population will have substantial environmental impacts especially in China's big cities. More stringent future exhaust emission standards require a better fuel quality and more effective emission control means in motor vehicles. On the other hand, the importance of measures to reduce fuel consumption and CO{sub}2 emissions in the optimisation of vehicle and powertrain concepts is steadily growing, too.
