Buckling, Postbuckling and Imperfection-Sensitivity: Old Questions and Some New Answers

摘要

From the point-of-view of economy and safety it is desirable to develop structural configurations with a sufficiently small imperfection-sensitivity and to seek ways of achieving this without sacrificing the goal of structural efficiency and favorable strength-to-weight ratios. The presentation will focus on several examples falling into this category. Due to space restrictions only the case of an axially compressed cylindrical shell filled with a compliant core can be discussed in this contribution to the printed conference proceedings.
