INSTITUTIONAL ARRANGEMENTS - INDIVIDUAL SOLUTIONS 'Renovation of Bus System in Seoul'

Like other major cities around the world, Seoul has been suffered by severe traffic congestion. Because of increasing cars, buses in Seoul have been also suffered by reduction of passengers. So, the revenue of bus companies in Seoul has also decreased, and citizens are suffered by poor service. To vitalize bus system in Seoul and encourage people to use more buses, Seoul Metropolitan government renovated Seoul bus system and built new infrastructures for buses last July. All the bus routes are reformed as trunk-feeder system and exclusive median bus lanes were created. GPS (Global Positioning System) has been installed to every bus and upgraded smart card system was introduced for free-transfer and distanced-based fare system. As a result of this renovation of Seoul bus system, the number of bus passengers has increased and bus related accident has decreased since implemented.
