摘要

Mechanical components and tools due to high performance requirements have to operate in severe working conditions such as high speed, load or temperature and other hostile environments. A graded coating composition or structure improves the load carrying capacity by smoother transition in mechanical properties from those of hard and stiff coating to those of softer and more flexible substrate. The main objective of the present investigation is to study the material response of graded coatings to high frequency low amplitude impact loading in terms of impact scar dimension/morphology and acoustic emission (AE) signals emitted by the impulsed material. Results are discussed with illustrations.
