Computer animation has provided educators with a new outlet for expression of complex theoretical ideas to students. Constructing animated images for the purpose of expressing theoretical concepts need not be a complicated project. Indeed, it has been our experience that a significant amount of information can be provided through out the use of the simplest animations. The basics of computer animation construction, however, can be somewhat intimidating to those unfamiliar with the techniques required. In this tutorial, we plan to demonstrate and teach some of the simpler techniques for constructing animated images. As an outcome of having attended this tutorial, participants will be able to generate basic computer animations for their own courses even without significant backgrounds in computer programming. We will use some very basic programs in this tutorial, such as Excel and Paintbrush to produce images that will then be rendered. The software that will be used to produce this rendering is a very user friendly program from Gamani, namely Gamani GIF Movie Gear?. During this tutorial, participants will be led through the construction of several simple gif animations, from start to finish. We will also show how data extracted from spreadsheets can be easily converted into an animated product.
