The development of a successful anesthesia plan is built on an understanding of several factors. The patient’s physiological needs, the demands of the procedure that necessitates the anesthesia, the capabilities of the personnel involved in the procedure and the resources available to the anesthetist, all have a role. An important resource for the anesthetist is a good knowledge and understanding of the pharmacology of the anesthesia and adjunct drugs used to provide anesthesia care. Also importantis an understanding of the principles and techniques of their administration.
