In this paper we will discuss briefly historical context of Six Sigma and discuss how Six Sigma is typically implemented within an organization for product development. We will discuss the Trials, Tribulations and Lessons Learned by implentation of Six Sigma within the context of a complex, multi-site, multi-plant manufacturing organization. We will discuss how the lessons learned from Six Sigma implementation can become a strategic weapon to improve the bottom-line in the corporate world today. We will discuss how the key technical and statistical tools, as well as the key Six Sigma players and stakeholders can make the organization achieve breakthrough cost, quality and capacity improvements. Techniques for Six Sigma project selection and project streaming will be discussed. Lessons learned from numerous projects and Six Sigma Implementation for Champions, Green and Black Belts will be discussed; these lessons learned ensure project success. We will further expand on how Six Sigma techniques can be used in smaller enterprises.
