A New Design Family of Optical Fiber Cables Designed to Cover a Wide Range of Emerging Applications

A family of cables suitable for a wide range of applications is presented. This cable family is composed of loose tube cables using buffer tubes with diameters significantly smaller than those currently standard in the industry. These products are designed primarily for use in blown-in installations; consequently, they are characterized by their high fiber packing density and small outer diameter needed for this use. The family also encompasses cables with a tensile rating of up to 2670 Newtons (600 pounds), which will allow for conventional pulling installation. The cable design and the fabrication process will be presented in this discussion, along with the mechanical and environmental performance of these products.
