The ruthenium-pyridylphosphine complex,Ru(acac)_2(Ph_2Ppy)(2),is prepared from the reaction of Ru(acac)_2(cyclooctene)_2 with diphenyl-2-pyridylphosphine(1)in 78% yield as deep red crystals.The X-ray crystallographic analysis revealed that the pyridylphosphine coordinates to the ruthenium center in P,N chelate.The hemilabilily of 1 caused a formation of end-on nitrile complex,Ru(acac)_2(PhPpy)(NCPh)(3)by the reaction of 2 with benzonitrile.Complex 3 is an acvite species for the catalytic hydration of benzonitrile.
