Treatment of the RuMo_3S_4 cubane-type cluster [(Op~*Mo)_3(mu_3-S)_4RuH_2(PPh_3)][PF_6] (2a;Cp~* = eta~5-C_5Me_5) with an excess of anhydrous hydrazine results in the catalytic formation of ammonia and dinitrogen via the disproportionation reaction of hydrazine.An ammonia cluster [(Cp~*Mo)_3(mu_3-S)_4Ru(NH_3)(PPh_3)][PF_6] (3a) and an unprecedented double cubane-type cluster with bridging nitrogenous ligands [{(Cp~*Mo)_3(mu_3-S)_4Ru}2(mu_2-NH_2)(mu_2-NHNH_2)][PF_6]_2 (4) were also obtained from the reaction mixture.Molecular structures of 3a and 4 have been determined by X-ray diffraction studies.
