Commonly implicated, but rarely proven, plant induced toxicity is often incited by complex interactions of plant, animal and environmental factors that are often difficult to identify or duplicate. Varying payability, plant availability, toxin concentrations, and animal susceptibility combined with non-specific clinical and pathologic lesions make diagnosis challenging. The purpose of this discussion is to introduce new techniques used to diagnose plant induce poisoning, review some common and emerging toxic plants, and discuss several techniques used to treat and minimize the effects of poisonous plants.
