Dielectric Barrier Discharges (DBDs) are known to form homogeneous discharge mode under specific conditions. If such mode can be produced in gas with carbon abundance, it might be used for creation of carbon nanostructures. This work presents the investigation of the DBD in the mixture of argon with acetylene. The influence of acetylene concentration on discharge electrical properties was studied. Also the gas flow through the discharge gap appears to have impact on discharge characteristics. Observed drop in discharge breakdown voltage indicates that argon with acetylene forms a Penning mixture. The discharge appears to be diffuse but it contains large number of inhomogeneities. The measured discharge current exhibits chaotic behaviour at higher acetylene concentrations.
