In order to improve the recycling rate of the industrial solid wastes (ISW's), the preparation of porous adsorbent from ISW's was investigated. The gravel sludge (GS) was used as inorganic ISW and the sawdust (SD) was used as organic ISW. Moreover, the clay mineral (CL) was used as caking additive, and potassium dicarbonate, potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide was used as activator for the sawdust. After kneading the GS, SD and CL with the activator aqueous solution, the porous adsorbent was prepared by calcination under N2 atmosphere. Adsorbents prepared with activator had a large specific surface area (ca. 250 m 2 /g) and high adsorption ability (ca. 70 mg of methylene blue/g). These results indicate that the porous structure based on activated carbon was prepared from the mixed ISW's by using activator.
