With personal computers, the Internet and World Wide Web firmly ingrained in our culture, libraries have become a focal point for access to technology. Librarians, in turn, have assumed the expanding role of trainers and instructors―presenting programs on the Internet, electronic database searching, online catalogs, and many other technology-related topics. Increasingly, library users expect and even demand training and instruction. Library administrators and Technology department heads must coordinate their programs for public instruction to make sure resources are used in the best way. They must also deal with the changing roles of librarians, creating a "techno-savvy" staff who can meet the challenge of public instruction, be it a group of 12 or one on one instruction at the Reference Desk. Many libraries have created Technology Competency checklists to assure a savvy staff. (See Resources).
