In this investigation, a new casing treatment model is presented and the relation between the stability equation and casing treatment is also set up. Emphasis was placed on how to find an effective numerical approach to solve the stability matrix. Muller method has been used to solve the stability equation based on singular value decomposition. The comparison between theoretical and experimental results has been made for a low speed rotor, which shows the numerical method is reliable. In addition, a simplified method has been used to simulate the effect of the geometrical parameters of casing treatment has been presented. The present result may be helpful to further study the optimal design of the recessed casing treatment.
