THE GREAT PROFITABILITY POTENTIAL IN SWEDISH INDUSTRY

It is a matter of survival for Swedish industry to properly utilise its plants and manufacturing equipment. The connection between professional maintenance activities and profitability is not yet well known to management boards and decision makers in our industry. It is most likely a similar situation in most other countries. Short term profitability goals limit the acceptance of Life Cycle Profit thinking. The key parameter to follow is the overall equipment efficiency, OEE. Surveys of this crucial figure are scarce, and on management levels the companies positions are often unknown or overestimated. To increase the overall efficiency, making sure that assets tied up in manufacturing are utilised to its maximum, is one of the most important positive performance improving activities. This paper will describe the general situation in industry, give some ideas about what should be done and what the result will be.
