A fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) pipe has been newly developed for grouted-reinforcing members and a method using the FRP pipe has widely being wed in the tunnel excavation and cut slope. The failure mechanism of the grouted-reinforcing members is controlled by the mechanical properties such as shearing, pull-out and tensile strength as proceeding to failure stages. Many studies on the pull-out and tensile strength of die member have been carried out empirically so far. But very few analysis or tests on die shearing resistance are available at this time because of the difficulty of test method. To verify the characteristics and behavior of the shearing resistance, two types of laboratory shear tests are carried out The first is for four types of material those are grout material, FRP pipe, inner-grouted FRP pipe and grouted-reinforcing body with FRP pipe. The other is for ground grouted using FRP reinforcing members. The test results showed that the shear resistance of the body increased gradually up to considerable displacement owing to the FRP pipe and that of the ground increased linearly owing to the grouted-reinforcing body, ft was demonstrated that FRP reinforcement played an important role in shearing resistance of die ground grouted using FRP pipes as reinforcing members.
