This paper deals with an investigation of the dynamics of building internal pressure when there is an internal partition with or without a connecting door between compartments. A set of equations has been developed to describe the behaviour of internal pressure fluctuations for a two-compartment building with openings on one of the walls and on the internal partition. The equations predict the presence of two resonant modes and a higher admittance at the first mode for pressure fluctuations in the compartment without an external opening. Consequently, higher root-mean-square (RMS) values for pressure fluctuations were predicted and observed in the compartment without an external opening, relative to the 'other' compartment. This was also found to be higher than the RMS. internal pressure coefficients in a building without internal partitioning. The results of a wind-tunnel study on a 1:50 scale-model of the Texas Tech University (TTU) building are in good agreement with these predictions.
