摘要

Hurricane Lili made landfall along the south-central Louisiana coastline near Intra-coastal City on October 3, 2002, as a category 1 storm with maximum sustained winds estimated at 41 m/s. Researchers from Clemson University (CU), Louisiana State University (LSU), Texas Tech University (TTU), University of Florida (UF), University of Oklahoma (OU), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Hurricane Research Division (HRD) collaborated to collect meteorological data from Lili at landfall. This coordinated effort yielded an unprecedented dataset of turbulent wind observations from a landfalling hurricane. Turbulent wind statistics (turbulence intensities and gust factors) were calculated from this dataset to demonstrate its usefulness in determining the local effects of upstream obstacles on hurricane wind structure.
