摘要

Background. This paper refers to the development of an environmental Management tool to answer to the Directive requirements in the noise assessment process. Objective and results. The system supports noise maps calculated by the interim calculation methods for road, railways and industrial noise. However it is independent from commercial acoustical programs. It is integrated in a GIS application and it has been designed to help the communication between different Administration levels and departments involved in noise management. As far as it has been possible, the input data for noise mapping are taken from existing databases which will be periodically updated by their maintenance responsible department. The assessment is not only based on noise levels but it also converts dB levels to population exposed to noise. It supports a psychosocial study of population response to noise. At the same time the application gives a base for the public communication process set by the Directive.
