A method is presented here to automate acoustical design for the low frequency region of a small complex shaped enclosure. A BEM based acoustic model is presented and combined with an optimizer to vary the boundary properties of the small enclosure. A simplified problem is discussed where the optimizer is required to specify the absorption-frequency behavior of materials on different surfaces of an enclosure in order to reduce the sound pressure level averaged around the drivers head. The enclosure is a typical driver's cabin of a train.
