Hat-type stiffeners are the most common form of longitudinal or transverse stiffeners used in the traditionally designed single skin laminate fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) boats. Despite though their easy fabrication and their broad use, there is still no standardization of their geometric characteristics, since the geometric design parameters of their cross-section are numerous. The present work presents an effort to produce design curves, which can be used either as an analysis tool for defining the cross-sectional properties of a given section, or as a design tool for selecting a hat-type cross-section that meets specific design requirements. The geometric parameters considered are the crown thickness and width, the web thickness and height, the flange width, the web angle, and the flange angle. The finally selected range includes more than 4500 different cross-sections.
