We consider the properties of force chain networks in static or slowly deforming granular systems. We provide a brief description of the experimental method. We then present experimental determinations of the Green's function for static systems. That is, we determine the force response to a small locally applied force. We then consider the statistical properties of a slowly sheared granular system in a Couette geometry. All of these experiments are carried out in a quasi 2D geometry, as explained below.
