A new kind of light sources exploiting cathodoluminecsence (CL) of phosphor material under excitation by electron beam produced via cold electron emission from nano-carbon (nC) cathode is described in the paper. Combination of high efficiency of cold electron emission from nC cathodes and high efficiency of electron beam energy conversation into light in CL process provides highest total energy efficiency of the light sources in comparison with other known one. Generation of light by using such kind of sources based on nC cold cathodes leads to significant decrease of energy dissipated as heat. Other advantages of the lamps are possibility to produce white or colored light depending on used CL phosphor, very fast switch on/off, wide range of environment temperatures of very low to very high, easy operation, absence of any ecology dangerous components and materials etc. All these advantages are very attractive for different applications.
