Analysis of elastic properties of rubber-bitumen compositions produced with different types of crumb rubber

Elastic properties of bitumens are of special importance at road construction. Rubber bitumen compositions were prepared from various bitumens and from crumb rubbers of different size. Polymer modified bitumens, rubberbitumens in particularly changed some of their properties during storage and handling. In such compositions this could be of practical advantage if after-polymerization reactions took place after production. After-polymerization can be detected by studying the changing of the elastic properties with time. This was carried out by a new method. The elastic recovery was studied by a Brookfield DV II+ viscometer. Rubberbitumens, which were manufactured from different sized crumb rubber were studied to determine which crumb rubbers were better regarding to elastic properties. Results were evaluated by using rheological models.
