Transitional Spaces as a Mitigation Feature for Thermal Environments of Buildings in Hotand Humid Tropical Regions (Part 2)

This paper follows the previous research of the transitional spaces as a mitigation feature (Jitkhajornwanich and Pitts 1998). By using the same data from a field study in Bangkok, but an alternative methodology of analysis (i.e. Griffiths' value (Griffiths 1990)), the results give different neutral temperatures between air-conditioned/naturally-ventilated and between indoor/outdoor environments of transitional spaces. These findings, compared with the neutral temperatures in office environments (Busch 1992), show a sequence of thermal comfort conditions for human subjects at each space, according to their experienced thermal environments (i.e. adaptive approach to thermal comfort (Humphreys and Nicol 1998)). The architectural transition in time therefore defines adaptive comfort in spaces.
