Prevalence of factors associated with metabolic syndrome in family members living with acute coronary patients

Introduction. The risk factors associated with metabolic syndrome are present in both coronary patients and their relatives living with them. This study identifies the prevalence of hypertension, diabetes mellitus (DM), dyslipidemia and obesity in family members living with coronary patients.Material and method. Data were obtained through a socio-demographic questionnaire with data concerning metabolic syndrome risk factors, height, weight, and waist circumference, body mass index (BMI) and waist/hip ratio. Results. Family members living with patients presented risk factors for metabolic syndrome, especially hypertension. Conclusion. The conclusion is that family members living with coronary patients share a similar lifestyle.
