Lanthanum strontium ferrite cathodes were treated with aqueous solutions of Ce(NH_3)_4(NO_3)_4. After heating to 500°C, the deposit decomposed to CeO_2, which partially filled the porous lanthanum strontium ferrite electrode structure. The ceria particles were less than 100 nm in size and blocked a major fraction of the porosity. Despite this apparent decrease in porosity, the electrochemical performance was enhanced significantly. In the presence of flowing oxygen, the exchange current density was three times that of the untreated electrode.
