New Coriolis meter tackles traditionally difficult flow measurement problems

Since its introduction the Coriolis mass flowmeter has grown rapidly to become one of the leading flow measurement approaches available. Its widespread appeal is explained by a variety of reasons. First and foremost it provides a direct measurement of mass flow rate: there is no need to compensate for the changes in density that accompany variations in temperature or fluid composition. The Coriolis meter provides unequaled accuracy for a number of fluids that are traditionally difficult to measure: for example thick, viscous fluids that generally flow at very low Reynolds numbers and are typically non-Newtonian in behavior. Unlike many previous technologies Coriolis is essentially insensitive to Reynolds number effects for these lower Reynolds number applications. In batching or dosing its low Reynolds number performance, as well the ability to cope with changing fluids, make it an ideal choice for those applications. Since Coriolis is also, independently, an accurate liquid densitometer, it provides additional quality control and process information for the user. In practice many use a Coriolis meter exclusively as a densitometer.
