Epoxides are useful compounds for organic synthetic chemistry and industry because epoxides have high reactivity. We have been carrying out selective epoxidation of olefms with t-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) over the group Ⅳ and Ⅴ transition metal oxides. Epoxidation of allyl acetate is difficult because electron-deficient oxygen of TBHP which is created by the coordination to high-valent metal ions will not easily access C = C bonds having low electron-density. We have found that MoO_3/TiO_2 and MoO_3/α-Al_2O_3+pyridine had relatively high activity for epoxidation of allyl acetate. We have further developed MoO_3/MgO catalyst for the epoxidation of allyl acetate, which is more active than these catalvsts.
