In present paper results obtained during the monitoring of different electrochemical, mechanical and environmental parameters on an instrumented pilot concrete container, are presented. This container is buried in the installations of medium and low radioactive activity waste disposal that Enresa has in "El Cabril", in Cordoba (Spain). Results recorded since 1995 (when the structure was built) to 2002 show that the failure proportion of the embedded sensor has been lower than 10%. Changes in the external temperature are detected two meters deep, and affects the evolution of the rest of measured parameters. Thus, concrete expansion-shrinkage and resistivity follows the seasonally change or the wetting for filtrations. The oxygen availability is decreasing with time, and by the time, rebars are completely passive. Finally an example is presented regarding the application of service life principles based in a 3D model of chloride diffusion, assuming the chlorides are part of the wastes stored in the drums. The model helps to illustrate the impact in the service life of concrete containers of chloride concentration in the drums.
