Metallo-Thermo-Mechanical Simulation of Jominy Tests for Several Steels

Jominy bar test is popularly used to evaluate hardenability of steels. In the specimen quenched from an end, thermal and phase transformation stress/strain is induced in the specimen, the effect of which is usually is not taken into consideration for the usual case. Simulation based on metallo-thermo-mechanics is carried out by use of developed code "HEARTS" to estimate the stress as well as temperature and phase transformation behavior during and after the test. Here, the material parameters necessary for the simulation are taken from the material database "MATEQ" developed by the Subcommittee on Material Database, the Society of Materials Science, Japan (JSMS). The results of simulation on the hardenability depending on chemical compositions and other material characteristics are discussed compared with experimental data for several steels, and the effect of the stresses is evaluated.
