CASE HISTORY: RTO Thermal Efficiency- What does the phrase really mean?

The term's thermal efficiency and heat recovery efficiency are routinely used interchangeably to mean the same thing. Most often purchasers of abatement equipment "buy" thermal efficiency. In the end they did not really know what type of system they were purchasing. The impact of thermal efficiency is felt directly in the cost to operate abatement equipment. Thermal efficiency is the "operating fee" to operate your system every day. This paper will discuss and describe two case examples regarding Thermal Efficiency, (TE). We will contrast TE to Heat Recovery Efficiency (HRE) and suggest cleaner and easier methods to understand the differences in terms. We will also compare and contrast different media types and the ability of each to achieve the manufacturers suggested thermal efficiency.
